Matar or Green Peas, we think that it is a vegetable but actually it comes in the category of Pulses.
Matar use to be a seasonal treat not anymore, thanks to the technology now we have frozen Peas all round the year, also, we have some Hybrid Qualities of pea and some organic Farming Techniques by which Peas are cultivated all round the year.

I am so fond of Matar (Green Peas) that when my mom uses to give me Matar to peel them off, she always gave them just after my Lunch or Dinner, or else I’ll eat half of the Raw Peas Seeds in the process of peeling the cover.

- Frozen Peas retain their color and texture better then Canned peas but best is to buy fresh Green peas.

- Canned and Frozen Peas have sufficient amount of Sodium due to processing methods so they should be rinsed well before use.
- Green peas are the fresher, the better as the sugar content transforms into starch.

All Ingredients We Need to Make Malai Matar
- Matar – 3/4 (0.75) Bowl
- Tomato – 2 medium sized (Finely Chopped)
- Onion – 2 medium sized (Finely Chopped)
- Green Chilli – 2 chillies (Finely Chopped)
- Ginger Paste -1 Tablespoon
- Clove – 2-3
- Cashew & Almonds – 4-5
- Tomato Ketchup – 2 Tablespoon
- Cream – 2-3 Tablespoon
- Jeera and Mustard Seeds – 1/4 (0.25) Tablespoon
- Heeng Powder- a pinch
- Haldi Powder – 1/4 (0.25) Tablespoon
- Red Chilli Powder – 1 1/2 (1.5) Tablespoon
- Dry Coriander (Dhaniya) Powder – 1 Tablespoon
- Salt – as per taste
Preparation time- 10 minutes
Cooking time- 10 minutes
Complete Step by Step Recipe to Make Malai Matar
- Heat some Oil in the Pan approximately 2-3 tea spoons;
- Add the Rai Seeds and Heeng Powder;
- Then we will add the Ginger Paste and the chopped Onions;
- Green chillies and Tomatoes are to be added afterwords and then we will fry all ingredients for 5 minutes;
- Add the Clove and Dry Fruits;
- Also we will add the other spices like Red Chilli Powder, Salt, Haldi Powder, Dhaniya Powder;
- Add 2- 3 tea spoons of water, cover the lid and cook for 5 minutes;
- Crush all the Tomatoes to make a fine paste;
- Add Tomato Ketchup;
- Now we will add the Matar and mix well;
- Add approx 3-4 spoons of water and cover it and cook for 5-7 minutes on low flame;
- Add Fresh Cream or Malai to the prepared dish, it is ready to be served.
